Finally, during the 1800’s, a small line of Broussards developed in Avoyelles Parish. One Louis Broussard, possibly related to the Bayou Teche country families, first settled in the Grande Prairie area near Opelousas, but before 1795, he purchased land in Avoyelles. During the 1810’s and 1820’s three of his sons, Maximilien, Joseph and Jean-Baptiste, were forming families in that area. Their descendants are likely the present-day Broussards of Avoyelles Parish.

In support of the Congrès Mondial Acadien Louisiane 1999, the Broussards of Louisiana incorporated (as did seventy-five other Acadian families) on December 10, 1996, as La Famille Beausoleil Association.80 Its first president was Errol B. Broussard, who died tragically in an airplane accident on August 10, 1999. He was succeeded by J. Maxie Broussard, who died June 27, 2004. Other officers of the organization are: Charles Broussard, Vice-President, and Don Louis Broussard, Secretary-Treasurer.
